Educational Psychologist

About Me

I am a dedicated Educational Psychologist with a passion for empowering individuals to reach their full potential. I specialise in assessing and supporting the cognitive, emotional, behavioural and social development of learners across diverse educational settings. Holding a Masters degree in Educational Psychology from Stellenbosch University, I have developed a deep understanding of how learning processes interact with individual differences, environmental factors, and developmental milestones. I offer a holistic range of services, including but not limited to; individual therapy, play therapy, and psycho-educational assessments.

I take a client-centered approach to therapy, creating a warm, supportive and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel empowered to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I aim to help clients achieve personal growth, self-awareness, and self-acceptance. Through play therapy, younger clients are provided the space to express themselves in ways that feel natural, building trust and facilitating emotional growth.

Assessments are designed to identify learning disabilities, giftedness, and other developmental needs, providing clear insights and actionable recommendations for families and educators. In addition to direct services, I collaborate with schools, teachers, and parents to develop personalised learning strategies and classroom accommodations in areas such as; behavior management, inclusive education, and supporting students with diverse learning needs.

Individual Therapy

I take a collaborative and client-centered approach, working with children, adolescents, and young adults to address various emotional and behavioral challenges. Therapy is tailored to the unique needs of each client. Using evidence-based techniques, I provide a safe, confidential and supportive space to explore concerns, develop effective coping strategies, and foster positive well-being.

Play Therapy

Many children find it difficult to articulate their thoughts or feelings directly. Through play, they can convey what they might not be able to express in words. Play therapy helps children develop coping mechanisms, manage emotions, and improve social skills. It’s often used to address issues like anxiety, depression, trauma, or behavioral problems. I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental space where children can feel supported and understood. This relationship is key to the therapy's success.

Psychoeducational Assessments

A psychoeducational assessment is a comprehensive evaluation process to assess an individual's cognitive, academic, emotional, and behavioral functioning. These assessments are used to identify strengths and challenges related to learning, development, and mental health, and to provide recommendations for support or intervention.

Psychoeducational Assessment

A psychoeducational assessment is a thorough evaluation designed to examine an individual's cognitive abilities, academic skills, emotional well-being, and behavioral functioning. These assessments aim to identify areas of strength and challenge related to learning, development, and mental health, offering tailored recommendations for support or intervention.

The following domains are assessed:

  • Cognitive: Measuring intellectual abilities using standardized tests.

  • Academic: Assessing skills in areas such as reading, writing, and math to identify academic strengths and weaknesses.

  • Behavioral and Emotional: Using observations, questionnaires, or interviews to explore emotional well-being and behavioral patterns.

  • Executive Functioning: Evaluating skills like planning, organization, and self-regulation.

  • Social Skills: Assessing interpersonal abilities when relevant.

The process is as follows:

  • Parent intake interview

  • Comprehensive background questionnaire

  • Psychoeducational assessment conducted over one to two days, depending on the client

  • Classroom observation, teacher questionnaire and interview

  • Feedback session to parents

  • Psychoeducational report (compiled within 4 weeks of the assessment)

Griffiths III

Assessing a child’s developmental profile and level helps to identify if a child is developing appropriately for their age or whether difficulties in specific areas could be linked to a specific developmental or learning disorder. Griffiths III can assist in tracking and monitoring development over time, and planning for and measuring the impact of interventions. It can also provide valuable information to inform decisions about future placement and management of the child. It is suitable for assessing children from birth to six years of age. This assessment provides an overall measure of a child’s development, as well as an individual profile of strengths and needs across five areas:

  • Foundations of learning – assesses critical aspects of learning during the early childhood years.

  • Language and communication – measures overall language development, including expressive language, receptive language, and (to a lesser extent) use of language to communicate socially with others.

  • Eye and hand coordination – considers fine motor skills, manual dexterity and visual perception skills.

  • Personal-social-emotional – measures constructs relating to the child’s developing sense of self and growing independence, interactions with others, plus many aspects of emotional development.

  • Gross motor – assesses postural control, balance and gross body coordination, among other abilities.

The process is as follows:

  • Parent intake interview

  • Comprehensive background questionnaire

  • Psychoeducational assessment conducted over one to two days, depending on the client

  • Feedback session to parents

  • Psychoeducational report (compiled within 4 weeks of the assessment)

School Readiness Assessment

Grade 1 readiness assessments provide valuable insights into a child's preparedness to transition from Grade R to Grade 1. These evaluations focus on key areas such as cognitive abilities, emotional maturity, behavioral patterns, and motor-perceptual skills. By identifying a child's strengths and areas for improvement, these assessments enable parents and schools to recommend targeted interventions that support the child's academic development and overall success.

The process is as follows:

  • Parent intake interview

  • Comprehensive background questionnaire

  • Psychoeducational assessment conducted over one to two days, depending on the client

  • Feedback session to parents

  • Psychoeducational report (compiled within 4 weeks of the assessment)
